The Wicihitowin Circle of Shared Responsibility and Stewardship is a community-driven model that advocates for the needs of Edmonton’s urban Aboriginal people. As the Steering Committee for Edmonton’s Urban Aboriginal Strategy, the Wicihitowin Circle includes urban Aboriginal people, agencies, and Governments, working together to address the needs identified by Edmonton’s urban Aboriginal people.
HOW DO WE DO THIS?
- Relationship - We encourage and develop partnerships with governments, service delivery agencies, and Edmonton’s urban Aboriginal community (individuals, families and communities) to explore ways to improve services and address service gaps. We believe that real and sustaining change can only happen by building and encouraging healthy and positive relationships in our community.
- Agreements - Through formal and informal agreement we will create collaborative solutions and responses to emerging issues, needs and priorities of the urban Aboriginal communities.
- Celebration – At the annual gathering we celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of those who have participated in improving the quality of life for Edmonton’s urban Aboriginal people.
- Renewal - By honoring all of the values and traditions of the urban Aboriginal community and our partners we will renew our relationships, reflect and learn from past activities of the Circle, and revitalize our direction and vision.
